Course Overview: This block course of two class periods is designed to provide reading and writing intervention for struggling readers and writers. In this class, students will receive weekly, individualized feedback on their reading and writing while learning the specific skills necessary to become proficient readers and writers. In the reading portion of the class, special emphasis will be given to literal, inferential, and evaluative comprehension, vocabulary strategies, and English content terminology. In the writing portion, special emphasis will be placed on conventions (spelling, grammar, etc.), sentence fluency, and generation of ideas. The focus of this block course is to prepare students to graduate by meeting the state benchmark standards.
