Roseburg Music Program

The community and secondary school musical groups benefit from the comprehensive music curriculum taught in Roseburg schools. A total of thirteen teachers provide instruction to approximately 4,200 students in grades K-12.

All elementary students receive an average of sixty minutes of instruction per week. Some schools are able to offer choir and various ensembles. Within the community, students have the opportunity to participate in the Umpqua Youth Choir and the Umpqua Youth Orchestra.

At the middle school level, the students are offered core performance groups in band, jazz band, and choir as well as musicals. The high school offers continued opportunities with performance groups. This includes marching band, jazz band, and pit orchestra, ACDA choir, and musical opportunities. This type of quality program has resulted in a musically active community as well as many students continuing their musical education at the college level.

Music continues to be important in the lives of children as well as staff in our schools and community. In times of change and increased expectations, it has become more important to include a curriculum of comprehensive music and all fine arts in public schools.
