MEET OUR HUCREST STAFF!

In loving memory of Precious, Hucrest Office Cat Extraordinaire, who passed away this summer after faithfully serving our school for 16 years.  Though she actually lived across the street from our school, all of us at Hucrest know that she truly lived in (and will remain in) our hearts.  We will miss your sweet face, kitty!

MRS. MILLER, CDS TEACHER

Mrs. Miller has lived in many different places in her lifeteime, but she was born in Corvallis, Oregon, and has lived in Oregon for most of her life.

Our newest CDS teacher is a legacy: her mother taught here at Hucrest for 18 years- in Room 18, the same room that Mrs. Miller taught 4th grade in last year!  Mrs. Miller also is an alumni of Hucrest Elementary having gone to school here herself as a child!  Welcome home, Mrs. Miller! Before landing at Hucrest, Mrs. Miller taught at Melrose, JoLane, Rose, and in very far away Costa Rica!

Mrs. Miller attended many different colleges, including OSU, Northwest Christian, and Missouri, where she attended on  a running scholarship!  Wow!  Mrs. Miller still loves to exercise, enjoys reading, and is learning how to play the guitar in her free time.

Always with a smile on her face, Mrs. Miller is the mother to 2 beautiful children, Elleen and Finley, and is married to Brian.  Together with their dogs, Barley and Scout, they reside right here in the Hucrest area.  Hooray for short commutes!

Mrs. Miller's favorite foods are eclectic, which means that she enjoys many different types but she did mention that pizza and Mexican food are at the top of her list.  Mrs. Miller loves the movie, "Top Gun" and the book, Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day by Judith Viorst.  She says her favorite part of teaching is definitely her students.  And, I bet you can tell what her favorite color is!  If you guessed orange, you are right!

Mrs. Miller is a very welcome addition to our Hucrest Family and we are so glad she has chosen to come back here!

MRS. NEWMAN, 3RD GRADE TEACHER

Mrs. Newman joins the Hucrest team after teaching at both JoLane Middle School and Sunnyslope Elementary School.  We are so glad that she is here with us this year!

Mrs. Newman will be 34 years-old this week (on November 12th!) so, if you see her please wish her a very Happy Birthday!  Mrs. Newman is the proud mother of 3 beautiful children, Zoe (7), Luke (5), and Hope (3).  She grew up in Salem, Oregon and attended the University of Oregon (Go Ducks!!!)   In her spare time, Mrs. Newman loves to be with her family, read, take vacations, get massages, and attend Duck games. Mrs. Newman loves to read inspirational and self-help books.  This awesome 3rd grade teacher's favorite movie is "Remember Me" and she enjoys a good tear-jerker, which is another term for a sad movie.

Mrs. Newman loves Mexican and Italian food.  The very favorite part of the school year thus far?  Seeing the sweet smiles on her student's faces!

THANK YOU FOR BEING WITH US, MRS. NEWMAN!  WE ARE SO VERY HAPPY THAT YOU ARE HERE!

MRS. LAZUR, 2nd GRADE TEACHER

Mrs. Lazur is new to Hucrest this year, but she has been teaching in schools for 10 years.  Hucrest Elementary School is her 6th school!  Mrs. Lazur grew up in the Detroit area of Michigan and graduated from Eastern Michigan, whose mascot is an Eagle, which is similar to our very own Hucrest Hawk!  She has lived in Oregon for the past 8 years.

The 31 year-old Mrs. Lazur has two wonderful children, Ava (4) and Dean (1), and is expecting another baby in February!  Very exciting!  In her free time, Mrs. Lazur enjoys drawing, painting, sewing, reupholstering and refinishing furniture, and downhill skiing.

Our newest 2nd Grade teacher loves Italian and Indian food.  Her favorite books are The Life of Pi by Yann Martel, East of Eden by John Steinbeck, and the Harry Potter series.  Though Mrs. Lazur changes her favorite color seasonally, right now she likes the color turquoise (you probably guessed that from the color of this article!).

Mrs. Lazur loves her class this year.  She believes that they are all very hard-working.  She is impressed with how they complete their tasks and are nice to each other.  Mrs. Lazur already knows that it will be hard for her to leave them when she takes maternity leave for her new baby.

WE WELCOME YOU, MRS. LAZUR, AND ARE SO HAPPY THAT YOU CHOSE TO BE HERE AT HUCREST!

MRS. WORTHINGTON, KINDERGARTEN TEACHER

Fun Facts about Mrs. Worthington:

Mrs. Worthington is 27 years-old. This is her second year teaching in a public school.  Previously, she taught at Head Start.  Mrs. Worthington grew up in a Military family and has lived in many different places including Japan, Virginia, California, New Hampshire, and here in Oregon!

Mrs. Worthington attended Oregon State University where she earned a Bachelor's Degree in Child Development and Southern Oregon University where she received a Master's Degree in Teaching.  Great job, Mrs. Worthington!

Our newest Kindergarten teacher loves the color purple (thus the color of this text!), Buffalo chicken, all kinds of music (especially music from the 1950's and 1960's), and her favorite book is Little Women by Louisa May Alcott (which you can find in our very own Library).

Mrs. Worthington likes to read, bake, hike, and play piano (though she doesn't have one currently) in her spare time.  Her very favorite thing about this school year so far is getting to know each one of her students.

WE ARE SO HAPPY YOU ARE HERE!
