Course Description:

6th Grade Applied Arts courses introduce students to the medium of clay. Clay courses are semester long courses. Students are provided with the opportunity to explore a variety of hand building techniques including pinch, coil, and slab construction. Students also explore a variety of glazing techniques and participate in the firing of their projects. In Clay ll, students further explore areas of interest that developed during their experience in Clay l. Some students in Clay ll also begin to utilize the potter's wheel as a method of production.

Students in Clay are encouraged to broaden their scope of design. Elements and principles of design are woven into the experience and students are asked to look closely at the world around them for inspiration.

This is a class where interaction is encouraged. Students are given the opportunity to develop relationships and to practice making good decisions that will help prepare them for the transition into adulthood.

Last, but certainly not least, being in Clay is enjoyable!!!
