7 Roseburg high students headed to Nationals.
Seven Roseburg High students win State Championships and are headed for the National Finals in Kansas City.
On April 13 & 14, 2007, over 430 CTE (Career and Technical Education) students convened at Linn Benton Community College for the 2007 SkillsUSA Oregon State Championships and Leadership Conference. There were 37 different contest venues in which students were asked to measure their skills in head-to-head contests covering a variety of skill areas. Each contest was designed and judged by industry representatives, making the competition a real test of necessary job-related skills.
Contest areas were in a variety of specialty fields ranging from speaking events to welding, automotives, baking, child care, architecture and nursing, just to name a few. Roseburg had 43 students compete in the state wide contest. Nine students competed on Friday, while the remainder attended the conference on Saturday. Roseburg had one student win the State Championship in two events. Vanessa Burns set a noted mark by winning the Prepared Speech Contest for the third consecutive year. This is the first time this has been accomplished in the history of SkillsUSA Oregon. Vanessa is also the Technical Drafting Champion and will compete in this event at the National Contest. Roseburg had several parents in attendance for the Awards Ceremony Saturday afternoon. Students received medals for the top three places and several contest events awards scholarships and industry awards.
Students earning the coveted spot as State Champion will be competing at the National Championships in Kansas City during the last week of June. Following is a list of results:
