ActivEd Algebra 1

Grade Level: 9,10,11

Length of Course: Year

Pre-requisite: Application Approval

Course Overview: This course is the first in a series of classes designed to prepare students for further education. Students should be able to use various problem-solving strategies in order to analyze problems and formulate appropriate solution strategies. The emphasis of this course is linear and quadratic equations and inequalities in one or two variable systems of equations/inequalities. Students will also explore single variable statistical models and proportional reasoning. The ActivE class distinguishes itself as different from the standard Algebra 1 class not by teaching a different curriculum, but by formulating alternative projects and assessments. Projects and assessments are created in an attempt to appeal to students who have not been finding success in the regular standard classes.
