Course Overview: The core instructional tool taught in Connections B is Transitions Curriculum. The Transitions Curriculum responds to current school practice, which emphasizes integration of core subjects throughout every aspect of the school curriculum. Specific core academic content is infused into lessons through real-world relevant activities. The Transitions Curriculum is designed to help students reach for and appreciate their personal best. In order to do this, they must understand the rules and structure of a classroom and their own ability to get along with others.
Additionally, students learn the importance of participating in their communities and giving of themselves by a service project they commit to. Students will practice showing consideration and courtesy to others through modeling and interaction with the public, such as guest speakers, job shadowing, and classroom peer interactions. They will begin to practice looking beyond themselves and to the needs and feelings of others. The course is designed for a full year enrollment in order to fully benefit from all aspects of the designed lessons. Students are then expected to enroll in Career Exploration to complete the full transition plan.
