Bookhound Reader Program

We started our reading incentive program called K-9 Readers in 2003. As you know, K-9 is an acronym for canine, so the program has to do with dogs and readers.  We changed the name to Bookhounds in 2010.

A Bookhound is an enthusiastic reader of books, so we have invited the Douglas County chapter of the Guide Dogs to the Blind to bring their dogs to our library to be read to by students.

Dogs are great listeners and make a great audience for students to practice their reading. The students will be briefed with the do’s and don’ts of reading to the dog.   Each dog will have their handler present with them at all times.

Teachers will choose one student from their class to participate each month.
