Students in grades one through eight shall receive instruction in the following areas: art, career education, English, government and law, health, library skills, mathematics, music, penmanship, physical examination, physical education, reading, science, social studies (including history, geography and economics) and spelling.
Exemptions from specific portions of the prescribed program may be granted upon requests signed by parents or guardians that the student is being reared with religious or bona fide and established moral beliefs which are opposed to such instruction.
The superintendent may exempt students from specified portions of the prescribed program on the basis of physical, sensory or other disabilities.
