  • To startup a Chromebook you normally just need to lift the lid and it will power on automatically. If you are having any trouble with a Chromebook powering on, please follow these troubleshooting steps.

    1. Lift the lid and give the device a solid 15 seconds to power on.
    2. If the device does not power on after 15 seconds press the power button.
    3. If the devices still does not power on:
Press and Hold the Refresh Key and Power on Key simultaneously for at least 5 seconds then close the lid -  see next step. (The refresh key is the Circular arrow key usually above the “4” key on the keyboard)
Close the lid and plug the device in.  Notice the color of the charge light located next to the plug. Is it Red, Orange or Green?
    • Green = Fully Charged battery – the device should be powering on – Lift the lid again and wait 15 seconds
    • Orange = Partially Charged battery – the device should be powering on – Lift the lid again and wait 15 seconds
    • Red light = Fully depleted battery – leave the lid closed and wait for the light to turn orange – this could take up to 30 minutes.  Once the light is no longer red – lift the lid – the device should now be powering on.

If none of these steps work then the Chromebook probably has a hardware issue and will need to be exchanged for a different one. If that is the case, please notify your teacher who will make arrangements for an exchange.
