Community advocacy helps maintain competitive opportunities for RHS student-athletes

Thanks to strong community advocacy, Roseburg High School student-athletes will continue to benefit from consistent, high-quality competition as part of a seven-team athletic conference through the 2026–2030 Oregon School Activities Association (OSAA) classification cycle.
The OSAA recently approved a 5A/6A hybrid conference structure that allows RHS to remain in a full, seven-team league, rather than being placed in a smaller four-school model. This decision followed months of input from families, students, staff, and community members throughout Southern Oregon.
The approved conference includes the following schools:
- Roseburg High School (6A)
- Grants Pass High School (6A)
- North Medford High School (6A)
- South Medford High School (6A)
- Ashland High School (5A)
- Crater High School (5A)
- Eagle Point High School (5A)
This outcome ensures:
- More balanced and equitable competition
- Consistent scheduling
- Reduced travel and fewer missed instructional hours
- Continued opportunities for visibility and advancement
District leaders emphasized that the new structure supports the academic and athletic development of RHS students by providing fair and meaningful opportunities to compete.
The OSAA’s decision highlights what’s possible when communities collaborate with purpose and persistence to protect opportunities for young people.
