JED-AR 4 - Determination of Un-excused Absences and Procedures

The principal / designee or school board determine that an absence is un-excused. |

The principal / designee provides written compulsory attendance non- compliance notification to the parents within 24 hours of verification of violation, served by mail or personally. |

The principal / designee continues to monitor the student’s attendance until regular attendance is established. |

The principal / designee will refer the student to the Superintendent if the student fails to maintain regular attendance immediately after notification, and/or the student has 8 half-day absences in a 4 week period of time in which school is in session. The Superintendent will review prior notice(s) and attendance records; will determine if a citation is warranted; and give written notice to the parent / guardian - cosponsored with the district attorney. |

The Superintendent will forward a copy of the Truancy Report Form that indicates that the Truant Officer / designee delivered the District Attorney’s letter. |

If the child fails to return to school on the school day following receipt of the DA’s , letter, the school shall call the truancy secretary at the District Office to indicate the attendance situation. The Superintendent shall order the citation for failure to comply with compulsory attendance. |

The principal / designee will withdraw the student after 10 consecutive days of absences. |
