Roseburg High School Celebrates Excellence

Every student has a story. Some stories are written through academic achievement, others through artistic expression, athletic dedication, scientific discovery, leadership, or service to others. At Roseburg High School, those stories came together during the 34th Annual Evening of Excellence, an annual tradition dedicated to recognizing the remarkable accomplishments of students who exemplify the very best of what it means to be a member of the Roseburg High School community.
Held on May 7, 2026, at Jacoby Auditorium on the campus of Umpqua Community College, the Evening of Excellence brought together students, families, educators, and community members for a celebration of perseverance, curiosity, creativity, and character. The ceremony served as a reminder that excellence cannot be measured by a single test score or accomplishment, it is built over years of hard work, determination, and the support of teachers, coaches, advisors, and families who encourage students to pursue their potential.
The evening began with a welcome from David Vickery, while Marie Felgentrager and Chris Van Dyke served as Masters of Ceremonies, recognizing outstanding students across every corner of campus.
The awards were presented by faculty members representing each department, including Gwen Bartlett (Social Studies and Leadership), Shiloh Hibbert (World Language), Fawn Shilts and Khara Holborow (Student Services), Loradona May (English/Journalism), Casey Hines (Foreign Exchange Students), Nathan Eckman (Fine Arts/Yearbook/RHS Artist), Daniel Owen (Math), Kristin Brooks (Science/Robotics), Sheri Carson (Career & Technical Education), Tim Sustaire (Health/PE/Three Sport Athletes), and Marie Felgentrager and Chris Van Dyke (Academic Feather Awards).
Teachers across Roseburg High School nominate students who distinguish themselves through qualities such as academic achievement, leadership, work ethic, perseverance, growth, attitude, and commitment to learning. In addition to these recognitions, Department Awards honor graduating seniors who have demonstrated exceptional achievement within their fields of study, while COSA Awards celebrate students whose outstanding merit and accomplishments set them apart within their respective disciplines.

The 34th Annual Evening of Excellence was not simply a ceremony honoring achievement, it was a celebration of a school community committed to helping every student discover their strengths, pursue their passions, and leave a lasting impact on those around them.
