YMCA offers Lifeguard Class

The YMCA of Douglas County is offering a Lifeguard Class for individuals ages 15 and older. Participants must complete a swim test before attending class, which will be held Friday, June 5 at 3:00 PM. Those unable to attend tryouts can call to arrange an appointment prior to the first day of class.
The swim test includes a 200-yard swim using front crawl, breaststroke, or a combination of both, treading water for two minutes using legs only, and completing a timed test in 1 minute and 40 seconds that includes a 20-yard swim, diving to retrieve a 10-pound brick from 7 feet deep, and swimming 20 yards with the brick.
To receive certification, participants must attend all class dates, which are June 13 from 9:00 AM–4:00 PM, June 14 from 12:00–5:30 PM, June 15 from 9:00 AM–4:00 PM, and June 16 from 10:00 AM–5:00 PM. The cost is $200 for YMCA members and $250 for non-members. Registration is available at ymcaofdouglascounty.org/certifications.
