Meet January's Exceptional Student Award winners

Congratulations to Eli Sanman, a seventh-grader at Fremont Middle School; Ethan Williams, an 11th-grader at Roseburg High School; and Hayden Wier, a senior at RHS. These students were recognized with Exceptional Student Awards at our January 14 School Board meeting.
Each month, students are chosen by their schools to be honored at our School Board meetings. Students may be recognized for a variety of achievements and successes such as academics, community-mindedness, character, positive influence, and extracurriculars.
Here’s what their schools had to say:
Eli is a student who consistently demonstrates strong character, a positive attitude, and a genuine commitment to learning and community. Across classrooms, Eli is known for coming prepared, following directions the first time, and approaching each day with focus and responsibility. Teachers regularly note his strong work ethic and conscientious approach to learning. In math, Eli shows up ready to think, explain his reasoning, and engage deeply with the content. He collaborates thoughtfully with his peers and adds value to every class he is part of. Just as impressive as Eli’s academic habits is the way he treats others. He is consistently kind, respectful, and helpful to both classmates and adults. Eli’s dedication, kindness, and positive influence truly embody what it means
to be a Fremont student.
Ethan is an exceptionally conscientious and dedicated student who truly commits to learning the material, particularly in Pre-Calculus. He is a steady, focused worker who does not allow distractions to interfere with important tasks. Ethan is a strong problem solver who asks clarifying questions, pays close attention to detail, and consistently delivers high-quality written work. He contributes thoughtfully to class discussions and demonstrates both intelligence and empathy in the way he responds to classmates. Enrolled in rigorous courses, including AP/CC U.S. History, Ethan shows determination and organization. He balances a positive sense of humor with a strong work ethic, making him a valued teammate in class and band. Kind, helpful, and dependable, Ethan is a natural leader and an ideal student to recognize.
Hayden is a stellar student who consistently demonstrates diligence, responsibility, and accountability in his work. He takes feedback constructively and always strives to improve, approaching challenges with maturity and persistence. Friendly, courteous, and thoughtful, Hayden brings a positive presence to the classroom along with a great sense of humor. He is deeply passionate about robotics and advocates strongly for the growth of STEM and STEAM programs in Oregon. An active National Honor Society member, Hayden has contributed over 114 volunteer hours. He is curious about the world, actively engages in discussions, and thoughtfully connects course content to real-world systems and issues.
