District Wellness Committee to meet
The Roseburg Schools Wellness Committee is beginning its work for the year, and new members are invited to join. The committee plays an important role in supporting the health and wellness of students, staff, and the broader community.
School districts are required by USDA to regularly review their Local School Wellness Policy, and the Oregon Department of Education (ODE) recommends an annual review to ensure the policy remains current and meaningful. This provides an opportunity not only to meet requirements but also to strengthen the policy so it reflects the needs and priorities of schools and the community.
This year’s areas of focus are:
-
Reviewing the wellness policy to ensure required areas are complete and aligned with ODE requirements, while also recommending areas that may need updates or changes.
-
Preparing for the upcoming Triennial Review, ensuring the policy and practices are aligned.
Additional topics may include:
-
Reviewing how new federal and state guidance impacts the wellness policy.
-
Examining Triennial Progress Assessment results.
-
Evaluating how wellness goals are being met and identifying areas for improvement.
-
Identifying community partners that can enrich employee and student wellness programs.
-
Recommending wellness activities that can be integrated throughout the school environment, beyond the cafeteria.
The wellness committee will meet four times this year, with the first meeting on Tuesday, September 30, from 4:00–5:00 p.m. at the Roseburg Schools District Office, Board Room (1419 NW Valley View Drive, Roseburg, OR 97471). An agenda is included with this invitation for review. Additional sessions may be held as needed for the annual review of the wellness policy.
Participation from school staff, administration, students, and community members is encouraged, and new voices are always welcome at the table.
Collaboration on this important work will help strengthen the health and wellness of students, staff, and the community. Use the link below to go to the district website for information on the Wellness Committee.
